The Art of Adjustments & Assists
Many teachers would like to assist more, but don’t yet have the confidence or skills. In today’s climate of avoiding touch, greater knowledge is needed in order to lay an ethical foundation that fosters a safe space for all.
Hands-on adjustments, when done skillfully and correctly, can be the most powerful way to develop trust among our students. Giving your student someone and something to trust can open up their world and grant them the greatest opportunity that yoga has to offer: the ability to surrender. Bringing skillful adjustments can transform a student’s practice in a way that no verbal adjustment can alone.
The Art of Adjustments & Assists will take your teaching to the next level so that you can successfully lead your students down a path of immense growth.
In this full day immersion you will learn:
Alignment tips for both students and teachers. How to protect your own body from over use. Appropriate ways to position yourself to allow enough physical and emotional space.
Technical guidance on how to assist to optimize alignment/energy flow, ensure safety, and deepen students’ experience of yoga.
Body and energy reading. What to look for before adjusting. Also when to allow privacy and space.
Recommendations for assisting popular poses, with a re-cap of the most common mis-alignments.
Functional anatomy combined with subtle anatomy to better comprehend emotional holding.
How to effectively use props.
Ethics and safety considerations.

30 Hours of Hands on Assists and Anatomy
The Perfect Chaturunga Workshop
Sunday, February 1st. 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Peacebank Yoga Studio, Redwood City, CA
The most commonly practiced poses in vinyasa flow are chaturanga dandasana, urdhva mukha svasnasana (upward facing dog) and adho mukha svanasana (downward facing dog). When done properly with correct bone alignment, muscle activation and joint integration these three poses, linked with breath, are challenging, fun and a great way to cleanse the palette after many standing poses. When done improperly, with incorrect bone alignment and by overloading weak or injured muscles and joints, the repetition of these three poses can result in injury.
In this workshop you will learn about your body and how it can move with grace and ease in your flow practice. On and off the mat tools and techniques to strengthen and stretch will be taught. Jennilee will also share with you a 5-step process that will change the way you practice forever!
See you on the mat!
